Main attraction at the moment is Henri Cartier-Bresson retrospective photography exhibition, but they always do have an exhibition of seminal Finnish artists too. For example Askeli Gallen-Kallela's Finnish nationalistic masterpieces are always worth a visit.

The first floor was closed during my visit and the 2nd floor was devoted to a famous photographer whose work I did enjoy, but it was not the form of art I was out to see. The 3rd floor had a very limited exhibition also.

Lots to see in this museum, well known painters and photographers, very relaxing! At times the museums gets very crowded of people. Good signs everywhere, but not knowing always in which direction to check the photographs.

Went there for the Cartier-Bresson exhibition, which was excellent in its category. Ateneum usually does excellently whatever it dies. The real reason to go here is anyways the Finnish art - all the classics are there and after a visit here you know all you need to about Finnish art from early 1900's.

I had been looking forward to viewing paintings so this did not appeal to me. I was amazed however at the number of people who were there to see the... More

Finland has many good artists - and a history that brings strong spices. Should be visited for many reasons.

the main exhibition is pretty good! besides Matisse, Van Gogh, Gauguin or Cezanne, there are lots of finnish good painters! Also, the staff is really nice and they can provide you additional info, let you take pictures/record if you want and so on. The ticket includes the additional exhibitions too! It was great to see Henri Bresson exhibition: a lot... More

You wont get lost in this museum. Spend a few hours enjoying Nordic art. They have regular themed exhibitions. Have a coffee and a cinnamon bun.
