Lovely center room

Anyone can browse in this library but you are required to remove your coat and hang it in an open coat room. The center room is beautiful.

Built in the middle of the 19th century, it was very modern at the time- airy, with many levels and spaces for the books and architectural details to delight the eye. Corinthian columns, trompe l'oeil paintings, meeting halls, etc. Nowadays, it is still a lovely building to visit. It has been updated with modern technology and there are frequent events... More

The National Library (formerly the Helsinki University Library) is my sanctuary in Helsinki. I first fell in love with it as a young student decades ago, virtually living there while working on my master’s theses. I still love to go there even though I no longer have any real business doing it. Some people go to church for peace and... More

Pop by this library after visiting the Cathedral. The interior deco are great. Beautiful painted ceilings are worth a look. You have to put your coats and bags in a locker.

A beautiful place in the middle of the city to quiet down for a moment, have a cup of coffee and admire the excellent renovation craftsmanship of this old building.

When you enter there, it is just an ordinary library. But later when you can touch all books, read them and ask nobody for permission - you feel like no limits for knowledge and you can not stop walking through and getting know with new and new books. The style is perfect. Either you are a scientist or just a... More

Stunning is the right word to describe this National treasure of Finland. Though i went to visit the landmark of Helisinki , Helisinki cathedral this visit to library made me understand more about the architecture grandeur and culture of Finland. The wonder cup board which is in display is a great innovative idea. I really enjoyed every part of this... More

We popped in here to look at the architecture and interior decoration as suggested by our guide book ( The Library is adjacent to the Cathedral ) .You will not be disappointed . It is a working library so you will need to put your coats and bags in a locker , but apart from that you are free to... More
