Vellamo's architecture is worth the visit alone. In addition the maritime museum, the regional museum and art exhibitions are both interesting, well-narrated and the exhibits are relevant. The staff is very friendly and helpful.

Maritime centre vallamo was a great surprise. We did not expected more than just a museum but it was much more. We spend great 3 hours and there was enough to see for additional 3. Great exposition for adults and a lot of fan for kids. Audio guide is available. Kids under 18 is free of charge. Very cheap entrance... More

The museum itself is very modern and the exhibitions are well prepared. There's a department for the region Kymenlaakso and the bigger part covers the life on boats and ships. I think it's very informative for kids, too. We started the tour with a lunch buffet in the museums restaurant. The price was 11€ including the usual coffee in the... More

Quite interesting museum. It has two parts: one about history of Kotka and surrounding areas, another is about boats. It's free and open late(ish) on Wednesdays.

Good history about Finnish maritime industry, coast guard and private maritime. Includes also departments for province history of Kymi. Kids liked it very much, lots to see, touch and feel, including seaman tattoos which you can make for yourself (in pc) and send home.

See the floor and the stairs! Lovely little shop. Take part to their workshops if possible, they have color baths for baby's, for example. Inside in the exhibitions, smell the air!

If you are interested in Maritime traffic, sea and shipping, then this the place to visit! Plenty of things to do for kids and youngsters, suitable amount of information about various things in connection with sea, water and maritime issues in general and about Finnish Maritime history more specifically. I do recommend a visit here!
