A quick stop on the ring road to stretch and walk down to a belt of basalt columns a few km from Kirkjubaejarklaustur. A tall waterfall is across the road. Great photo opportunities.

This is a quick stop and a good chance to stretch your legs. You will walk down a short, slightly steep, well maintained gravel path to the mini cliffs. If the weather is nice, I recommend stopping for a look. Unfortunately, the elves must have...More

Directly at ring road, easy to miss. Parking lot available and easy to access. Takes about 10-15 minutes to enjoy and then cruise on.

Extremely good stop if you're anything nearby or just driving along the road. Simple trail and very interesting information on how the rocks were actually formed. We actually stopped and had our lunch there since we packed them ourselves.

I don't think this attraction is worth a special trip, but stop if you are passing by. Cute rocks formation with a legend attached.

Nice place to stop and stretch your legs... and a fun story to try to convince the kids of. Trail is well marked, a little swampy when we stopped.

It's nothing spectacular but it's still pretty and a good reason to take quick break. It's hard to spot from the road, especially if you come from the east which is also why there's almost no other tourists. You can make some really good photos...More
