I wish I had done a bit of research before embarking on the bus tour, hoping to see the grandeur of postcard fame with my own eyes. Much of the color is apparently only visible through photography.

Hiking boots are good. Something with traction. Something warm and waterproof. They will most likely give you grip-ons but helpful to have good ankle support, warm, waterproof and with traction.
