You will meet the man himself, who did lot of recording himself and learnt from his dad. Who was the first person to video all the eruption from the beginning of 20th century. He is quite old man but full,of life and hummer. He run it himself with his own pace. Legendary man of Iceland. It is the highlight of... More

Pro: Meet the maker. Most of the footage is made by Knut, the filmer himself. Con: the footage has been put together not so well organised. It is a sequence of dates and different vulcanos outbursts. If you want to understand it, bring a map of Iceland and a date list of all major outbursts in the last 30 years.

If you do a bit of research you know exactly what you are in for. It was fun meeting with the proprietor and chatting with him a bit before the show. He also had some cats that watched the movie with us. The theater was also nicely done.

My husband and I are fascinated by geology so we stayed for both films. Villi himself introduced them- he first shot a film of a volcano when he was 13 and his father needed another camera operator! The first film was a general history of all the volcanoes they've filmed, including some interesting footage of everyday life in the 1950s.... More

This is a must in a tucked away red building in central reykjavik. You can watch a hour of extraordinary footage of Iceland's geological carnage. With understated commentary from the original cameraman Villi Knudsen. He looms around in the gloom of the cinema, plays down his exploits and is rather vague about everything. We thought he seemed unwell and this... More

We visited this place because of the trip advisor reviews. We found it a bit deteriorated. It is a little theater at the back of a house. When we got there, no one answered, after a while a couple came out and offered us icelandic candy and then came Villi, the owner and star of the movie. He directed us... More

Situated in the heart of Reykjavik, near the lake, the Red Rock cinema, showing the Volcano Show ,is a must for evry tourist to have an insight into the mysteries of nature. It shows all eruptions in Iceland since 1947,very daringly filmed by Villi Knunden and his father. Mr Villi , a very genial person, himself runs the show. All the erutions of Mt... More

Iceland has got to be one of my favorite countries and whenever people tell me they are going to Reykjavik for the first time I tell them to come here to the Red Rock Cinema and see the film which is shown by the son of the original film maker who is also carrying on the family tradition. In order... More

This place is basically a museum to Villi Knudsen, a life-long film maker who followed in his father's footsteps to document the eruption of volcanoes in Iceland. Basically they have coffee and the movie theater. We arrived 1/2 hour after the Enlish version of the show had begun. Villi, who runs the place too, encouraged us to go in and... More

As one reviewer wrote, this is not the Volcano House ( we actually came here by mistake) - but we are so glad we did. We felt privileged to have met Villi - a kind man who has devoted his life to researching and filming volcanos - and we gained great insight into both the variety of volcanos and the... More
