Take the lift up to the top for city views all around. The church facade is worth a look from the outside by day and by night. We took evening walks around the building by night and went inside in the morning before noon. For anyone needing a toilet stop, note that the toilets are not open nor available. Use... More

Although it is not the main church in the city, it has such a good location that you can hardly avoid it. It will remain a nice memory, a good sign of openness of Icelandic people

Hallgrimskirkja is one of the places You have to visit in Reykjavik. The fee to get up in the tower is maybe to much but You will get an awsome wiev over the city. The church room is also worth a visit.

Perhaps Reykjavik's most recognisable landmark. Hasn't been here since 2006. Some 10 plus years later it still holds its presence across the city. Popular with tourists upon this visit a church concert was under commencement. It was an experience even for the non religious.

Simple interior with lovely detail in the decoration. We were lucky to be there when an organist was playing, bringing a different dimension to experience. There is a small charge to go up the tower.

I'm a geek for architecture, and this building was totally compelling for me. Hiking around Reykjavik exploring is fun anyway, but make sure you check this attraction out up close

Not the prettiest of churches in my opinion however you can't deny that it's an impressive building. We were lucky enough to visit whilst an organist was practicing too which added to the atmosphere inside.

Hallgrimskirka is utterly plain, yet utterly inspiring, even without the trip up the tower for a panoramic view of Reykjavik and beyond. (Not sure about the one stained glass window and the palm tree in a corner, but hey.....). The organ pipes are stunning to look at - like an enormous sculpture) and I was lucky enough to hear the... The church is an imposing structure in what felt like the center of town. The views from the tower are worth the payment and elevator wait. However, I felt the church itself was a better view. The lines are clean. The baptismal font is shockingly detailed and has a lovely inscription. Ask a tour guide or attempt to translate yourself.... More
