says they have 11,000 items but you are lucky to see perhaps 50, the rest must be hidden away, they prefer to show you masses of empty wall space

This gallery had what was, for me, a terrific display of Nordic art. I knew very little about Icelandic artists, but the visit here really opened my eyes to new work!

The building is gorgeous and the layout of the museum is wonderful but the collection itself is not worth the steep admission price (unless you have purchased a Reykjavik city card). If you have a limited time, I would say you an skip it altogether...More

My husband found this after we went to the other art museum which bus more contemporary. This has more of a history of Scandinavian artists which is what I was looking for.
