There is one word above all others that screams 'Reykjavik Nightlife': Kaffibarinn. Not everybody loves the place, but everyone knows exactly where it is and would be sad if it ever closed down. But there is very little risk of that, if the queues outside are anything to go by. Kaffibarinn (along with dearly departed Sirkus) is probably THE place responsible for creating Reykjavik's party town reputation. Its heady mix of hyper-uber-cool music, people in trend-setting clothes, late night drunkenness and not nearly enough space for all the dancing sweaty bodies... well, that's really what it's all about. It was in Kaffibarinn that the distinctive 101 music taste and fashion sense were born, and from there they took over the world (in a modest sort of way). The place is open for coffee, beer and something to eat during the day. Disc jockey every night with various music. Mostly House during the weekends. They don't like photography inside the bar. It has been like that for many years and they do like their privacy. It's nothing personal.

The coffee and espresso are good. The lines are long. The vibe is hipster and the baristas know it. We were not there at night so we can't comment on the night life. We preferred Reykjavik Roasters but Kaffibarin has alcohol and is centrally located.

We visited the bar a couple of times for happy hour. It's a cool bar, quite dark inside. Music was good and staff friendly.

My wife and I popped in for 'Happy Hour' about 6:30p (runs from 3p to 8p). Great little spot, good music. Cozy place with plenty of seating.

Fun spot. Feels built into the city. Plenty of space and great to go and chill and have a conversation.

A nice little pub, worked out to be about £5.50 for a beer (from memory) which was the cheapest we managed to find in the whole of Reykjavik.

Fans of Blur and Gorillaz unite but in fact its more than just novelty, its a cool, hip, old school London pub style furnishings and a great DJ on the turntables playing quality house music (well on the Thursday I went anyway) and the drinks...More

Went to this bar a few times over a week, with an always reliably good, 20s/30s vibe, good tunes, good beers, not too well lit and friendly types abounding. Well worth getting in on the happy hour action, 4-8pm.

The Kaffibarinn possesses the two qualities a good pub must have, extremely friendly, prompt staff and an atmosphere. If you are looking for a quick draught or two and easy seating stop here.
