One of a must do trip to do while visiting Iceland. Black sand beach is about 2 and half hour drive from Reykjavik but well worth it. On the way to this spectacular beach trip also includes couple of amazing waterfall. We were quite fortunate with the first clear sunny day of 2017 in iceland.

It is about 6 km drive to the restaurant from the main road. When we arrived it was a big dissapointment thatthe restaurantwas closed. The view is beautifull and the nature is amazing there so we had a goodtime anyway.

Damp, overcast and howling wind made this place all the more awesome with towering basaltic column cliffs and huge waves you could feel the power of nature.

Nature is amazing. I doubt any architect or designer could've built a place like this! I've seen basalt columns in Jeju Island but I've never been up close like you're able to get here. The "caves" are also spectacular. Take the time to walk along the beach, following the rock formation. There's really not a whole lot to say except... More

Black sand, caves, basalt stones, waves - this is a must see! There are two black beaches in Vik, and the most beautiful one is the one before you actually arrive at Vik. Follow the sign to "Black sand restaurant" about 5-10 min before Vik, and you will arrive at the right beach.

This was by far my favorite experience in Iceland. The basalt columns were amazing, the black beach was otherworldly... there were puffins flying overhead, even dropping fish parts on my kids! The sounds of the pebbles as the waves came in and out was like a rainstick. Really uniquely Icelandic experience and one I recommend to everyone!

It was really nice! We actually flew our kite here. Be careful with the waves, dont go to near the shore. The formation of the rocks was quite interesting.

The beach is a wonderful place to walk and chill, and the cliffs are very impressive and must be seen. There is a good car park and a good cafe, so a good spot after visiting the waterfalls in the area.

One of my favourite and most unique beaches ever. The black sand is incredible. It's like you're on a whole new world. I wish we were able to see the icebergs on the sand. It was really windy when we went in March, but we were lucky enough to stay in the cabins nearby the beach which was a whole... More
