We went into the church to check it out of curiosity. We were lucky to be there during a rehearsal:a guy was playing the trumpet, another one the piano and the organ and a third one singing. Beautiful voice and music! The church itself is also very nice, I especially loved the hundreds of lighbulbs hanging from the ceiling.

Had travelled to this charming fishing town of Stykkisholmur for a cruise in the Breioafjorour fjord. They have this beautiful church with interesting design. In this town, we had climbed up a small hill and taken beautiful scenic pictures of this fishing town. During the cruise, we saw a pod of orcas (killer whales) and an eagle. One of the... More

Iceland does a rather remarkable job of posing their churches for photos, isolating them on hills with wonderfull backdrops but the unique architechture of this place it a bit above the rest.

We were in Srykkisholmur so we thought we'd take a quick look at the kirkja. Don't go out of your way, but if you are in the neighbourhood, check it out. It's on a hill and is an interesting building.

This church dominates the landscape. My husband was especially taken with the sight of the church juxtaposed against a nearby graveyard and house. We hiked to the church and looked inside, although I didn't find much of interest to see inside.

This church dominates the city from atop a hill, although it is easy to see from all parts of the city, is difficult find the street to go up there. The architecture is exceptional,Worth closer to it.

The aesthetic of this church is simple but effective. The organ is something to see..lovely and unusual. The modern Icelandic version of Virgin Mary over the altar will also surprise you. There was an excellent historical photography exhibit in a side room that gave a good sense of history and the hard life of rural Iceland dwellers during the 19th... More

Interesting exterior design reminiscent of a whale vertebra. The inside is rather plain like the other Icelalndic churches.

The church is modern and very unlike those we are accustomed to seeing in a European country. Be sure to go inside as it is simple and lovely.

Interesting design. There's plenty of different angles that cast shadows nice from the sun. Makes for a good photo!
