Visible from far and wide yet so close you could almost touch it, the emblem of Liechtenstein towers over Vaduz on a rock terrace which can be reached along a romantic footpath. The castle was first built some 700 years ago. Since 1712 it has been in the possession of the Prince of Liechtenstein. Furthermore, since 1938 it has been the residence of the prince’s family, so it is not open to the public. The 12th century keep and the structures on the east side are the oldest parts of the castle.

The Royal family's home is beautiful, but unfortunately not open for visitors. It's about 20 minutes walk from the town centre. You can see the castle from almost every point of Vaduz.

When you are in Liechtenstein, it's very important visit the area of the castle. It's not possible to enter, but there is a road that leads you there.

You can see Vaduz Castle from any point in Vaduz. It stands imposing over the city and we found it equally picturesque from the banks of the Rhine as it was close up! It is lovely to see it on a sunny day! It’s like...More

Great views of the castle can be seen through out Vaduz but don't bother walking up there as it is a private castle not for public entry.

The views of and from the castle are amazing but you are not able to go inside. It is understandable though since the Prince does reside here. Definitely worth the visit though!

Vaduz Castle overlooks the city magnificently, including being beautifully lit up at night. It's quite a spectacular castle in itself. You can drive up to the castle to look at it. There is a parking area just above it, although the road there is steep,...More

I wasted half a day of my life driving 45 minutes to Vaduz and back and looking for something worth doing. Interesting old castle, but don't be misled into thinking you can get in or even into the grounds. There is nothing else worth doing...More

Be careful this place can only be enjoyed from the outside. You can also find a little terrace nearby that dominates the whole city of Vaduz.

It is never open to the public, although once a year, 15th of August, during the national holiday there’s a party in the gardens (this is what I was told).
