Is this really the pillar that St Paul was whipped on?. And then went on to convert the governor of Cyprus and thence the people to Christianity? Who will ever know, but this is a truly wonderful site to visit and believe. Loved the beautiful mosaics around the outside of the church and the remains of Roman ruins surrounding the... More

From the map given at the main archaeological site, I thought this was within that area. However it is up a side street away from the harbour. Glad we finally found it as the pillar is in the grounds of an old church on an ancient site which can be easily viewed on boardwalks.

This was a nice walk and educational too. Loved reading about the different bits. Worth the visit. There were other visitors and it was nice to see people from different backgrounds.

I was told to visit this place, was not disappointed, there are boardwalks all around this site to take you around easily, a very old church sits in centre, mosaic floors, ruins and on way out St Pauls pillar where he was tied to ang given 40 lashes by Roman soldiers

This is allegedly the pillar St. Paul was whipped at on his arrival preaching Christianity in Cyprus, the first time I visited Cyprus( some thirty years ago) I looked for this one afternoon it seemed to take forever to find among the other ruins , now it's much better to find and raised walkways make it easy to traverse the... Impromptu visit. The church is built on top of some fabulous mosaics and the site is easily accessible. Please don't be tempted to get a bus there from Paphos Harbour. It really is a very short walk. The site has raised wooden walkways so that you can see the foundations and mosaics very closely. There was a long queue for... More

Attended mass at the church this April, and found a very interesting archaelogical site as well. The church is quite small and typically Greek with lots of iconography throughout. If you wish to attend mass make sure of the time as different services are held in different languages. Also be early as you may not get a seat. Inside can be... More

Strangely this site was never recommended or advertised during our two previous visits to Paphos - whereas the Tomb of the Kings seems to be on everyone's "must see" list. Unlike the Tomb of the Kings this site is also FREE to visit!! We came across the site whilst walking through the back streets of the town. It cannot be... More

Very pleasant and easy stroll around a boardwalk from which you can see everything and read information boards. We didn't go into the church because a service was taking place but they processed around the boardwalk afterwards, adding colour to the scene. It's free. I believe it is wheelchair/pushchair friendly. Take a hat.
