The Venus of Willendorf is one of the oldest statues found in Europe. You can visit the site where it was found and see a large replica. The real statue is in the Vienna Museum.

Cycling the Danube and for the section the North side which faces South is best with vineyards and Venus. The village is charming the location interesting and 5 * because of its historical importance. A definite place to stop.

The original statue is in Vienna. If you have not seen it there, of if you would like to see where it stood, it is worth a stop. But, check the opening times, as they are somewhat irregular.

Getting to Willendorf is easy by bus from the Krems bahnoff or by boat from the Krems dock. The small museum is very interesting in its interpretation of the Venus found here and others found elsewhere in Europe. The admission fee is quite modest. While...More

It is a small village, so the museum is snall too. If you've seen the original Venus in Vienna, it is a good idea to come here and see how it was found. Maybe you get some more ideas about the history of our species....More
