A lovely 4 km walk from the center of Hallstatt to the waterfall. The terrain is not very hard, only the last stretch is a bit steeper, but totally manageable.

We didnt hike to the waterfall but could see it in the mountains from the town centre.

As there was recent rain the waterfall had a good amount of water in it and its a very soothing sound to hear that roar of the water.

This mass of water plunges over the edge of a 90m high gorge.

It was a pretty easy hike up the paved path which took approx. 15 mins. Not much water during winter though but nice views over the late and town.

Nice hike away from Hallstatt's tourist crowds. Easy except the last, steep, section. Multiple waterfalls, more spectacular than photos would show.

We were not expecting a waterfall but you can see it in various places in town on a short walk. The town of Hallstatt is beautiful and became famous for its salt production. It has an underground salt lake as well.
You'll enjoy Hallstatt. We took a Viator tour that included Hallstatt, Melk and Salzburg. Hallstatt was probably the most beautiful.

The scenery is stunning and the sound of water constant. The walk is leisurely and cool as the forest canopy encloses around you on the walking trail. The trail itself is flat until you get closer to the falls and the trail could be better marked to indicate the direction of the waterfall itself as there are many paths but the signs not always clear. We initially attempt to see them with our 3 children (4, 6 and 9) but because we weren't sure of the direction we headed back. The following morning I went on my own (always easier to explore on one's own) and discovered a sign and path (albeit a little steep) to the waterfall - which was stunning and flowing heavily because it had rained the night before.

Great place to visit. It’s not too far from the town of Hallstatt (3km? Maybe 6km return) and quite easy. I think you can drive there as well - as I saw a parking lot nearby, but where is the fun in that? The first part is mostly paved and goes through the villages with their charming houses. The second half is uphill and can be done by the main road or through the forest trail. I recommend the latter. I took the main road going up (not realising there was a trail) which was not very pleasant but was really quick. The falls is really pretty and very cool given the heat wave happening that week in Europe. You can get really close to the falls itself - enough to get wet - through a series of steps. The forest trail back was much more pleasant and more along the river which was cooler.

We just checked out from the distance because our baby did not feel like going up! ;-)
The view of the waterfall was fantastic.
