The museum is very well done, providing a detailed history of the Hallstatt area. They have outstanding artifacts and visuals. It is specific for Hallstatt and that's great as it really explains the events there. The cost was 10 Euro and an hour is sufficient...More

The museum is a perfect choice to better understand Hallstatt history, and link thing together. Now, if you have a rainy day, it's advised you head to indoor attractions, and the museum should be your first destination. There are few beautiful simulations and some footges...More

A very interesting museum about the history of the town from prehistoric to modern times. The last part shows the artefacts from the tombs. Lots of multimedia. Most of the explanations are in German and little is translated but the objects are worth the visit.

This nice but small museum does a fine job of telling the story of salt and mining from prehistoric to roman to medieval to modern times. Explains the importance of Hallstatt culture for cultural anthropology. Good displays.

The museum is rather small but quite interesting. It was very quiet and there were no other visitors at the same time we were there (a lucky coincidence i suppose). The most important part of the exposition, which involves the region and it's history, is...More

Who knew that this is the site of the world's oldest salt mine? This little museum was quite nice and well worth a visit to understand the ancient history of the area, as well as important anthropologic finds in the ancient salt mines.
