Take the panorama funicular railway up the mountain at Hallstatt to discover the mysterious attraction of this mystical area. The path leads to the tunnel mouth and into a unique underground world first dug by hand more than 3000 years ago: many kilometres of tunnels lead deep into the rock interior. Enjoy a day full of fun and information at the Salt Mine Hallstatt for the hole family.

The scenography is a bit Hollywoodian but good enough for children. I confess I had some safety concerns when we rode on the train towards the end of the tunnel which is particularly challenging for the tallest ones amongst us.

We chose the salt mines because we hadn't enough time to do the caves and we weren't disappointed. The guide was nice and the cave quite impressive. There's a lot of short multimedia movies on salt formation, the mines and archaeology. Two slides are quite...More

I honestly forget the guy's name(I believe Lukas?) but he's around 25-30 and I honestly loved the guy! For someone more serious I found the guy a little condescending about the tour and kind of poked fun at some of the places/his job but to...More

We visited on a wet day so this offered a nice and DRY activity. We were so thrilled that we booked this tour, not only for the bit about remaining dryer longer, but because it's such a special location with such a long standing history....More

No, not that I am aware of and definitely no parking. Ample parking by the funicular bottom station by the village.

I would recommend not taking a tour at all and just catching the train from Salzburg to Hallein. Then catch the local bus to the salt mine and other sites you want to explore. It's not complicated, we did it with all seven... More

Hello, it is very easy. You just walk on the concrete road along the lake to the bus terminal and then instead of going to the buses crossing the street and continue straight walk to the cable car. Takes about 10-12 minutes... More
