Get the funicular railway up here and pay to do the extra tours. It is truly breathtaking. The castle is pretty intact and there is a cafe, shop and toilets, along with extra exhibitions. The views over the city are unreal. An absolute must.

Gorgeous top view of Salzburg but the ticket officer ( The one who has long hair ,large hole on his earlobe and tattoo on his arms ) is very rude to me. I have just asked the difference between group and family tickets . He replied to me moodily with his poor english which I couldn't catch any words! Maybe... More

I've brought many school groups to the Fortress, but have most always used the audio tour which is part of the Salzburg Card. However, this time I booked a private tour through the Fortress and it was much better. Also, not expensive!

Twelve Euros entry fee, after the onset of our exit from Europe effectively devalued the pound, may seem quite a high fee for such an attraction but don't let it put you off as the fortress really is as fascinating and varied as it is huge. The thing that almost put us off was the attitude of the staff there.... More

You can walk up the steep hill or take the funicular. Option of basic and standard ticket available, the €2 difference is well worth it to see the impressive private apartments and reception rooms (the real highlights of the tour, so obviously they charge more). There is an access to a viewing platform on top of one of the towers... More

Really interesting site-so many different sections and areas to explore, fascinating history with a nice layout. Great value, considering you could easily spend a few hours here, unfortunately we were short of time, would have loved to have spent longer, or perhaps come back for a concert! Spectacular view even on a rainy day. Also good idea to book online... More

We took the tram up to the fortress which included an audio-tour guide and lookout tower. The only way you can get to the lookout tower is by the GUIDED audio-tour. Personally I did not enjoy the audio-tour; however, the highlight was the view from the tower. It is a must to see. There is also a nice outdoor cafe... More

Worth the trip just for the views! The rest of the Fortress is interesting also with many artifacts from the 1st and 2nd world wars. The views though are breathtaking and the best part of the visit! The Cable car takes just a minute to reach the site and has access for wheelchairs and prams.

Fantastic view of the entire town and an amazing place to visit - feels like a small village once there, absolutely massive. Museum is a great place to visit, could have spent a lot more time here. To top it off a cafe/restaurant right on the edge with stunning views where you can enjoy your favourite beverages and great looking... More
