The Fortress has beautiful views at a pricey entrance fee. The Fortress is empty inside and the museums don’t justify the price tag.

The funicular railway to the fortress is like all the other rail systems in Austria- fast, clean and efficient. There are two cars, one at the bottom and one at the top that load simultaneously and then depart at exactly the same time, whisking you...More

Great place to visit. Especially if you buy a Salzburg card. Great views you can see a lot of the city from the top.

We took the funicular to the fortress as we were only in Salzburg for a day and wanted to spend time in the Christkindlmarkt's in town. Amazing views of the Austrian Alps from the fortress. Interesting exhibits and worth the trip.

Entering the castle is not free. You buy a general ticket to go up. Walking around the grounds and touring part of the castle is included. There is an extra fee for the "complete" tour of the inside the castle. It's well... More

I'm not sure, there weren't any long lines to get up the funicular to the fortress even though it was a holiday weekend and a festival was going on in the streets below the fortress. But my experience all around the area is... More
