We took the easier road (past the Steigl brewery) up to the Nunnery, avoiding the stairs. This was an easy way to reach it. Like many others, I went to see where Maria had been before becoming a Governess. We had little expectation of what we were about to see, but I'm glad we went as the Alter piece was... More

And so glad it did. Such a peaceful place above the city. Inside the convent, we were lucky enough to hear the nuns singing. The views are great and you get to see those scenes from the film!

Reason for us to be there was purely due to the movie sound of music. But it architectural coupled with serene location and ambience made the visit more than just that. Not something everyone would appreciate but if you have the time, worth to pay this place a visit.

Please experience the convent made famous in the movie Sound of Music. Such a beautiful and serene location with a wonderful view of Austria.

Most of you would have seen the delightful Hollywood movie "the sound of music", which was filmed in and around Salzburg. The Nonnberg convent or nunnery and its cemetery featured prominently in this film. A nice walkway, overlooking old and new Salzburg leads from its access via the steps adjacent to the festival house to the convent and its ancient... More

Last time visited it was near Christmas so had a different feeling. This time was Summer and came with the Teenager. It is still beautiful. Considering the Teenager is an athlete there was lots of moaning about walking up the steps (too hot, aching legs the usual stuff teens like to moan about to give their parents a hard time)... More

Nice because you pay what you wish to give. It is a place that I recommend because is different. The simplicity is beautiful.

Most people will know this Abbey from the Sound of Music, as there are a couple of scenes shot there. Its worth the climb up and you can enter inside. Its also where the real Maria VonTrapp stayed. The Church is stunning inside and its worth a look.

This was a dream for me to visit. The walk is quite steep to get there but is so, so worth it. We walked through the Convent gardens and took in all of the views. Definitely a great photo spot if you like the Sound of Music!

This is another one for 'Sound of Music' fans, as well as visitors interested in religious buildings/institutions. The Church is enormous and very atmospheric. The building looks a bit like a fortress from outside, but exudes peace and calm.
