Picturesque section of old Salzburg, the street a relic of Roman times, was once a center for tradesmen. Today it has become a refined area of stylish small bars, book and wine stores.

An interesting street to walk along. Very busy, with lots of shops, many with the old signs hanging down.

I walked along the Steingasse to experience the history it offered and get a different view of the fortress across river. It's basically an alley that I didn't find it particularly interesting. The only thing I found interesting was the "Maison de Plaisir" which is...More

This is a quaint street for a stroll. It is better with some sort of guidebook to help interpret the various houses of interest. Otherwise its just a stroll.

It was the main entry from the south in ancient times and represents one of the oldest "streets" of the city. By modern measurements this narrow road is of cource not even worth considered a street. Nowadays car trafic is restricted and only people who...More

This historic lane is from medieval times; Jews in Salzburg lived here in the 1400s before being expelled from Austria. It has some bars, some renovated homes and some run down places, but for a few blocks it is a fascinating walk through history. It...More

This was originally the ancient Roman entrance into the city. I love stuff like this since it was an old Roman street. I spent a lot of time here taking pictures of the old gate and the cobble stone streets not long after it had...More

Just north of the river from the main bridge, this is where the less affluent lived. Now picturesque, more an alley than a street; ten feet wide max. Small bars, even the old brothel, by night.
