Not bad but I was expected a little bit more after reading other reviews. For sure it was nice to see panorama from the top of the building

Compared the aquariums that I have visited in England (Mostly Sealife Centres) this has to be the best one I have seen so far. The building itself is structured like a skyscraper with a cafe and viewing platform at the top. Each layer has different exhibits and when you walk into reception you can see part of a tank from... I really found it interesting that the aquarium is located in an old WWII flak tower. You can read about the history of the tower and enjoy the fish kingdom. There is also a small war museum, but we couldn't see it, because there are only 2 sessions in the day - in 11 and 16 o'clock. There is a... More

Wonderful environment, a fantastic experience, I congratulate the founder. Plus a point would be to get the animals live in a super-being.

Opted to go here on a rainy day with fairly low expectations. It cost about €33 for two adults which seems cheaper than most aquariums - turns out it is a not for profit organisation. It's in an old tower building with lots of floors. There are the typical fish tanks but the real draw is the monkey/bat/bird/tortoise area where... More

We were looking for something to do on our last day in Vienna and the weather wasn't great. This place was perfect! They had lockers for our rucksacks and we spent a good few hours wandering through the different floors. Really good displays, loved the room where you could walk freely with bats, birds and monkeys! And then at the... More

This amazing aquarium is located in Mariahilf district in a tall flak tower built during World War II. It houses over 10.000 aquatic beings. For me the sharks were the most interesting animals. Great!

Staying in Mariahilf

Neighbourhood Profile
Mariahilf
Vienna’s sixth district hosts high street shopping heaven and pedestrian area Mariahilfer Strasse. The weirdest local building is probably the city aquarium Haus des Meeres, housed in one of Vienna’s six remaining World War II defense towers, and topped with a rooftop bar that offers stunning views over Vienna and the centre. One of the most historic sites in the area is the passageway of 18th century Raimundhof with its small shops and cafés. It leads from Mariahilfer Strasse to Windmühlgasse. For a glimpse into the world of early 19th century theater, visit Semperdepot, the former depository for theatre decoration, which now hosts art exhibitions and fairs.
