Good way to see a beautiful 19 century attraction. A real behind the scenes tour. We were split into groups according to language. Then taken round the ceremonial rooms and up the grand staircase. Loved seeing behind the stage and how the props are changed etc.

We went on this tour as my friend was going to the Opera later. The tour was quite short and didn't take you anywhere you would not be able to go if you were attending the venue other than seeing the stage being set up for a few minutes. The tour guide spent most of his time telling us to... More

The line to get in for the tour can get very long. Once inside have euros to pay. I believe it was 7.5 for adults which I believe is reasonable. Guide was knowledgeable and answered questions. However, people do get spread out so it wasn't possible to hear her if you were near the rear as the group was moving.... More

We hadn't planned to visit the Opera House but a wet afternoon and a process of elimination saw use securing ticket to a guided tour through the beautiful Opera of Vienna. Our guide was excellent and the fabulous added bonus was sitting in the stalls watching a crew assemble the stage for that evening's performance. What a treat. So much... More

I was looking forward to the tour of this opera house but was very disappointed. I have been on other tours of great opera houses like La Scala in Milan and Teatro Colon in Buenos Aires; this one was the worst. Our guide's English was not up to par, she knew some English but certainly not enough for this. In... More

This tour was larger in numbers than I generally like but the ability to see the huge and adaptable stages up close and personal. The hall itself is impressive and elaborate. The tour is worth your time.

This opera house tour was interesting and informative. They show you sights that an opera visitor wouldn't see, and provide interesting historical background on the building. It was amazing to see the curtains up and the staff working with the sets, and just how far back the stage really goes!

Rather than pay top dollar, or stand at back through full opera, do the guided tour and learn about running a famous opera house.

You cannot book ahead for this visit, so have to turn up at the time and hope that you can get in - this is not guaranteed. Buying the ticket and waiting for you trip to start can be a bit of a crush, but once going round it's well worth it. The rooms are wonderful and our tour guide... More

The tour was relatively short but the sights while on it make it worth a trip. The Opera House is beautiful and the guides do a great job explaining everything.

Staying in Inner City

Neighbourhood Profile
Inner City
In Vienna's best-known district, pedestrian boulevards Kärntner Strasse and Graben connect you with landmarks such as the Wiener Staatsoper (Vienna State Opera), Vienna’s iconic Stephansdom (St. Stephen’s Cathedral) and the vast compound of Hofburg, the Habsburgs’ former Imperial Palace. Peek down side streets such as Annagasse and Weihburggasse, and Graben’s Seilergasse and Habsburggasse, to get a feel for the centre. The Imperial Apartments and the refreshingly demystifying Sissi Museum are must-dos at Hofburg. Spacious squares such as Am Hof and Freyung often host beautiful seasonal and antiques markets.
