It is a Vienna icon and it is in all the tick lists but it is some way out of town and fairly quick for the €10 fee. The walk from town is nice along the Danube Canal and then you can U-Bahn it back one stop to pick up the Ringstrasse tram.

We had a fantastic night ride with an amazing panoramic view of the city. It was worth the money. Would highly recommend to everybody.

The Riesenrad is one of the main draws of the Prater area in Vienna. It costs €10 euro for one complete revolution of the wheel, stopping at points in the turn for photo opportunities. The total time it takes revolve is around 10 minutes. This would probably be a completely different experience during daylight hours. We visited at night and... More

After all, it's not that awful." Yes, the Ferris Wheel is surrounded by a moderately tacky amusement park but it's the real deal. Right out of the Third Man movie and if your a fan of the flick, it's a must if you're in Vienna. Maybe seek out some other fans while waiting on line to buy a ticket to... More

You can't beat the views from this amazing Ferris Wheel. I would definitely recommend going if you even have just a fairly clear day. My day was blue skies and it was fantastic!

This Ferris wheel is a must, you can see vienna from above. The carriages are spacious and one can move around quite freely.

Despite the fact that it turns really slowly, it was interesting to see the breathtaking view from the top.

Really enjoyed this attraction. The views were great on the clear December day we visited and the rotation lasted just long enough that you weren't bored. We had the Vienna Pass so the admission was paid for and we could skip the queue, which was huge. Probably wouldn't be a 4 star review if we'd had to queue as it... More

Staying in Leopoldstadt

Neighbourhood Profile
Leopoldstadt
Welcome to one of Vienna’s trendiest quarters. The second district has witnessed a turbulent ride, from medieval swamp to vibrant Jewish quarter, from pleasure ground for the noble and humble to current hip residence and workplace of Vienna’s creative crowd. Cross the Danube Canal from the city centre and take in life on Taborstrasse with its mix of old townhouses, churches, theatres, discount shops and ethnic restaurants. Head for Augarten via Karmelitermarkt, Leopoldstadt’s trendy marketplace. Baroque Augarten itself hosts a bizarre mix of manicured hedges and flowerbeds in front of a colossal World War II defense tower, the publicly accessible 300-year-old Augarten porcelain manufactory, the palatial boarding school and funky concert hall of the Vienna Boys Choir, and the modern art museum TBA21. At its opposite corner, The Prater not only houses the Giant Ferris Wheel but blends a bustling amusement park with lush woodland, perfect for a bike tour. Further east is the old derby racing ground of Krieau.
