Beautiful, walking avenues, filling with shops and a lot of energy. From the discount places like H&M, to very high end designers, this area has it all. Not to mention, lots of great "street food" to keep hunger pains at bay.

It is right in the centre of Vienna and yes it has the Cathedral, but other than that it's not really that interesting - lots of pretty plastic cafes and souvenir shops. Go to Naschmarkt if you want to see something more interesting.

A typical European square. Huge right in the city center. There are many high end boutiques and restaurants around the square. There were few performers / buskers performing in the square.

We have hung at so many pubs for drinking something and talking. The platz was full of energy and crowded. You can go any time of year.

You would be remiss to skip a visit to Stephansplatz on your trip to Vienna as it truly is the art of the city. No, it's not as impressive as some other main city squares as in Munich, Rome, or Madrid, but it's at a confluence of major pedestrian streets, and the site of Vienna's main cathedral, Stephansdom. Staying in Inner City

Neighbourhood Profile
Inner City
In Vienna's best-known district, pedestrian boulevards Kärntner Strasse and Graben connect you with landmarks such as the Wiener Staatsoper (Vienna State Opera), Vienna’s iconic Stephansdom (St. Stephen’s Cathedral) and the vast compound of Hofburg, the Habsburgs’ former Imperial Palace. Peek down side streets such as Annagasse and Weihburggasse, and Graben’s Seilergasse and Habsburggasse, to get a feel for the centre. The Imperial Apartments and the refreshingly demystifying Sissi Museum are must-dos at Hofburg. Spacious squares such as Am Hof and Freyung often host beautiful seasonal and antiques markets.
