This garden is situated at a great location, Ringstrasse and opposite the parliament building. It is a beautiful garden to rest for a while in between your scheduled places to visit. It also has several types labeled of flowers for those who want to learn something new while walking around.

Just next to the Burgtheater and the Imperial Palaces is the beautiful Volksgarten with its rose gardens. Volksgarten literally means the People’s Garden (like Volkswagen perhaps means the People’s Car?). One a stroll along Ringstrasse, I ventured into the gardens intrigued by the rose gardens that it is famous for and enjoyed a little respite from the hustled city life... More

It took us a while to realise what this garden was as all the trees were covered with sacks for the winter. However on further examination we noticed all the lovey labels attached to the trees in memory so someone who'd died. We sat for ages enjoying the peace of the garden & the music of a talented musician who... More

A beautiful garden in the middle of the city. You cannot really miss this one. It's a good place to sit back and soak some sun too.

Volksgarten in Hofburg Palace compound is a beautiful garden where the Austria's beloved Empress Elisabeth monument is located. Empress Elisabeth, called Sisi, led a sad life, enduring tragic death of her son, until she was assassinated in Geneva by an Italian anarchist. When you visit imperial palaces in Vienna and Munich, you can see portraits of beautiful Sisi with long... More

Make your way to Hofburg Palace through the Volksgarten. As any Austrian garden, it's well kept, long, and very beautiful. It's a really nice place to stroll around.

Well laid out gardens sited in the Burgring offering a pleasant walk among flower beds and lawns. The paths offer a route off the ring road and a short cut to the historic buildings.

After walking through Vienna and visiting the Christmas markets, it was nice to walk into the peaceful area called Volksgarten. The history, architecture and sculptures were just beautiful as we walked through the garden. I believe it would be amazing when everything blooms, but still was a little bit of peace among the hustle of Vienna.

Staying in Inner City

Neighbourhood Profile
Inner City
In Vienna's best-known district, pedestrian boulevards Kärntner Strasse and Graben connect you with landmarks such as the Wiener Staatsoper (Vienna State Opera), Vienna’s iconic Stephansdom (St. Stephen’s Cathedral) and the vast compound of Hofburg, the Habsburgs’ former Imperial Palace. Peek down side streets such as Annagasse and Weihburggasse, and Graben’s Seilergasse and Habsburggasse, to get a feel for the centre. The Imperial Apartments and the refreshingly demystifying Sissi Museum are must-dos at Hofburg. Spacious squares such as Am Hof and Freyung often host beautiful seasonal and antiques markets.
