We briefly entered this beautiful church as part of a self-guided walking tour of Vienna sights associated with the 1995 movie "Before Sunrise". We didn't want to be intrusive so didn't stay long, but it was certainly lovely inside and out.

This is Am Gestade, literally means at the riverbank. There used to be a port at the foot of the steps and the steps lead up to the Maria am Gestade, or St Mary on the Banks. Right at the top of the stairs is Maria am Gestade, one of the oldest churches in Vienna, built in the era of... More

Another wonderful church in Vienna. Worth a visit. Portions are Gothic and it is near the river. There are some steps, but it is simpler and more serene than some of the Baroque churches.

This church was one of the first in Vienna. It is at the top of two sets of steps that led up from the original banks of the Danube river; now diverted away due to flooding issues during Vienna's early years. Built of sandstone and with Freemason references. Not overly large, but then it didn't need to be in the... More

A Neo-Gothic masterpiece. It is an oasis of tranquility and breathtaking beauty in the city. Sunday Masses are held in Czech, German and French.

Nice little church with some parts of the building and the decoration dating back to the Gothic era. I spent an enjoyable half an hour appreciating the architecture. They provide info-pamphlets inside in several languages. Also found an old-school phonomat still working :)

Peek down side streets such as Annagasse and Weihburggasse, and Graben’s Seilergasse and Habsburggasse, to get a feel for the centre. The Imperial Apartments and the refreshingly demystifying Sissi Museum are must-dos at Hofburg. Spacious squares such as Am Hof and Freyung often host beautiful seasonal and antiques markets.
