Well worth a trip for Klimt fans, this is a beautiful building, build around Klimt's original studio, which has been preserved, with lots of helpful information available.

It is great to get to his home and studio after seeing his work featured on coffee cups and refrigerator magnets. It is one way to get back to the kind of life he must have lived in the outer neighborhood of the City. Visit his garden, home, neighborhood and see some of his art. Special away from the crowds.

The original atelier belonging to the world famose painter " was kept in its most important parts and a totally new building was errected over it. Housing a rich and artistical interested family. You can take aguided tour through the working place of Gustav Klimt with many references to his paintings and love affairs 😀

Klimt's atelier is located in a residential area and can be reached by tram 58A from Hietzing (stop Feldmühlgasse Verbindungsbahn). Actually, the original atelier was a bit different from the past since it occupied just the basament. The first floor is now used for concerts and conferences. As I was explained by the kind person at the ticket office, the... More

I found it, that was a big step, I had it all to myself, I read a lot of information. The villa has been vastly changed since Klimt used it as a studio. There are pictures to help you see what it was like and they have done their best to recreate its look. I found it hard to separate... More

This is very much off the beaten track but well worth the journey. It is three U-Bahn stops further on from the Schonbrunn Palace, and then five minutes' walk. Although the the original garden house has been considerably enlarged since Klimt worked there, the displays give a good idea of what it would have been like for him. The displays... More

I am a Klimt lover, and last week we visited Klimt Villa in Vienna. I was disappointed with this attraction. The admission fee is 10 euro, and there are only four to five rooms to see. The furniture is a replica (not original) and the canvases are just prints. Unfortunately I did not feel the spirit of Klimt, because everything... More

Of Klimt's personality. Lived here 1911 to his death in 1918 and where some of his most important works were created. Phone or web site for guided tour or just do it yourself. Lovely gift shop especially the local artist jewellery. Allow half an hour. Open Thursday Friday and Saturday 10am - 6pm. Other times upon request. Enjoy!

Having lived there for some time and visited in Vienna for the last 30 years I only came across the Klimt Villa on this trip. It is the studio that Klimt used from 1911 to his death in 1918. Later a first and second floor was added to the original building, built around the ground floor studio. It is a... More

But the walk gives a chance to explore the neighborhood. Very quiet as I was the one person there. The attendant was very friendly. The studio itself was worth the time it took to get there.

Staying in Hietzing

Neighbourhood Profile
Vienna’s 13th district has always been in the shadow of Schönbrunn Palace and its gardens, but has interesting hidden gems waiting to be discovered. Allow half a day for the imposing Habsburg residence and the gardens with Gloriette belvedere. Reserve the other half to discover the secret charms of this posh residential neighbourhood. Sneak out of the gardens at Hietzinger Tor (Hietzing Gate) and head down Hietzinger Hauptstrasse for Kaiserpavillon (Emperor’s pavilion), an Art Nouveau gem right on top of U4’s metro railtracks. At local institutions Café Dommayer and restaurant Plachutta you can mingle with residents, their families and friends. Dommayer has risen to fame since waltz king Johann Strauss and his orchestra performed there regularly. If you want to go beyond private villa gazing visit Klimtvilla and Hermesvilla. Art Nouveau genius Gustav Klimt had his last studio in a now beautifully renovated villa, which is open during spring and summer. Hermesvilla at Lainzer Tiergarten animal enclosure and nature park is a must for all romantics and fans of Empress Sissi.
