Kirche am Hof is translated into English as the Church of the Nine Choirs of Angles. Sounds incredibly awesome just by the name. It’s a centrepiece on Am Hof and a significant historical site. Chiefly, it is the church where a royal herald declared the end of the Holy Roman Empire, which had been ruled by the Habsburgs. The dissolution... More

This is a lovely church located on the Am Hof. At the moment, we were only able to explore its wonderful Baroque façade, as it was still being renovated and restored.

An excellent example of the Baroque style, both inside and out. The wall paintings are beautiful and plentiful. Unfortunately the church was full of tourists.

We visited Vienna in March, 2015 and during our walking trips through the city came up on this beautiful Baroque Church in a lovely old square. It dominates the area it is built in. Unfortunately, it was closed when we were there so we did not see the inside. However, the outside is beautiful.

The Kirche am Hof has a beautiful façade that is Baroque. The church is now being restored and its façade is covered now so hopefully the restoration is finished soon.

A beautiful church with lovely statuary and a most fantastic ceiling. You can often have the church to yourself as it is much less visited than many of the other churches in Vienna.

Staying in Inner City

Neighbourhood Profile
Inner City
In Vienna's best-known district, pedestrian boulevards Kärntner Strasse and Graben connect you with landmarks such as the Wiener Staatsoper (Vienna State Opera), Vienna’s iconic Stephansdom (St. Stephen’s Cathedral) and the vast compound of Hofburg, the Habsburgs’ former Imperial Palace. Peek down side streets such as Annagasse and Weihburggasse, and Graben’s Seilergasse and Habsburggasse, to get a feel for the centre. The Imperial Apartments and the refreshingly demystifying Sissi Museum are must-dos at Hofburg. Spacious squares such as Am Hof and Freyung often host beautiful seasonal and antiques markets.
