Buy the 24, 48, or 72 hr pass which lets you travel bus, tram, and underground without separate charge. Be sure to keep the ticket with you and handy just in case the conductor shows up.

The underground seemed safe to us as we used it and it always arrived on time. The carriages were clearly quite old and shabby, much like the London underground.

Very easy and cheap to travel within the city with the U-bahn. You can access most of the main sights with it. Very organized.

Vienna’s 13th district has always been in the shadow
of Schönbrunn Palace and its gardens, but has
interesting hidden gems waiting to be discovered.
Allow half a day for the imposing Habsburg residence
and the gardens with Gloriette belvedere. Reserve the
other half to discover the secret charms of this posh
residential neighbourhood. Sneak out of the gardens at
Hietzinger Tor (Hietzing Gate) and head down
