Visited late one evening in the middle of a snow storm. Magical place. The fish drying racks are enormous and I imagine it's quite a sight to see them full of fish ...although I'm not sure about the smell

There’s a fisherman’s village with a couple of restaurants and shops, they might be closed in off season or winter holidays. Nearby there’s Svolvær, with hotels, restaurants, bars, and from here you can take the cruise that goes all the way til Bergen.

Cold, wet, rainy, windy, and dreary ... that sums up our impression of Lofoten. Homes hover over the water on stilts (called "rorbus") and cod migrate here to spawn. Enough said.

Lofoten is a must visit. It is physically spectacular- the sheer diversity - beaches, snow capped mountains, sheer cliff faces, hundreds of tiny islands- I've seen nothing like it before. There are several islands you can keep as a base, I stayed in Lofoten, which...More

These islands do not disappoint. Scenically dramatic, with delightful small fishing villages and much to enjoy. Our Hurtigruten boat brought us to Svolvaer but take a trip around, go to the prettier places always shown in photographs .

Cod are harvested year after year in these waters as the come to this area to spawn. The earliest Norse settlements were here. You see traditional fishing cottages on stilts above the water and traditional fish drying racks. Parts of the city smell pretty fishy,...More

I would suggest you get to Trondheim by plane and then look at RometoRio on your browser. It will give you all the alternatives. We found it very reliable getting around Norway.
