RANA MUSEUM Regional museum with two departments, cultural history and natural history. A part of HELGELAND MUSEUM. Exhibitions and collections with focus on the Rana area and Helgeland. Art Gallery with changing exhibitions. Stenneset open-air museum: collection of buildings from the 18th og 19th century, centered around an old local vicarage. Exhibition of farming tools and machinery. Guided tours in summer season. Open restaurant in July. Bredek mountain farm, idyllic traditional farm situated off the beaten track inside Saltfjellet-Svartisen National Park. Open a feww weeks in July. Language Texting in the exhibitions are generally in Norwegian, some in English and German. The museum staff answers questions and provides guiding in English upon request. Sites: Rana museum is spread out in Rana municipality. The cultural history department is found in Museumsgarden in the centre of Mo, between the Meyer Park and the main pedestrian street. The natural history department is at same location. Stenneset Open-Air-Museum and heritage site, about 2 km from city Centre, is reached by following road R12 to Basmoen. Bredek mountain farm is situated above Bjollanes in the Dunderland valley, at the gateway to Saltfjellet-Svartisen National Park. (reached on foot only fram parking by E6. Marked Hiking-trail).

This museum was extremely interesting in understanding that this part of Norway is more than just the gateway to the Arctic Circle. Now I know who Ole Tobias Olsens was and how he shaped this area.

Agree with another reviewer - very little to see, for NOK 30.-/person. Yes, I agree to "dusty" (meaning old fashioned and uninspiring) exhibition about the old times. Had hoped a lot for this part. Especially since the trading was so intence with the new settlers...More

Went there with the family, met by friendly, helpful staff (who can give great recommendations about what to do in the area.) The exhibition felt a bit dusty. They do have art exhibitions once in a while.
