We visited Narvik from Bjorkliden by train specifically to see the war museum and it was definitely worthwhile. The museum had recently moved from its former site and is now in a media hub along with the library etc. It is now run by the "Narvik Centre of War and Peace" so there is a focus on peace and human... Narvik's war museum tells the history of the Narvik battles during WW II. It's a small museum, but very well designed. It narrates the history of WW II from the local point of view, analyzing motivations for the war and its consequences in the local level. Very very nice!

Nice collection of items salvaged from WWII shipwrecks from the nearby fjords in Narvik, the site of the underreported yet hugely significant Battles of Narvik where the British and Germans seeked control of the port and the Ofoten railway important for iron ore and hence metal supply for warfare. Museum had nicely presented history and stories of individuals - fighters... More

A good way of spending a couple of hours in Narvik, this place gives you a potted history of when the second world war came to Northern Norway and Narvik in particular. It explains what went on very well in a nice brand new building

The Narvik War Museum is well with a visit. The story of Narvik's role in the Second World War is brought to life with engaging, informative and interactive displays. This modern museum is thought provoking and also reflects on the role of war now and in the future. We spent a couple of hours here. The museum is in the... More

Very good museum with good facilities and nice arrangement of audio visual interface. War explains the pain taken by the people and explains why Narvik port was so important as it never freezes. Excellent demonstration of warships through computer interface and lots of warships and real machinery to see. Many people may not be interested in such museums but I... More

One reason for visiting Narvik was because my husband's father had fought here during the War. This museum helped explain the subsequent occupation of Norway by the Nazis in all his horrific and industrial scale.

Much better than the old museum I visited 20 years ago. Interesting displays, thoughtful presentation, helpful staff. Even a piece of Tirpitz to wonder at.

The Battle of Narvik is all explained in the new museum created, along with details of the action taken by the local populace in harassing the German efforts after they occupied Norway. Well displayed awith English translation

More

I am sorry to hear that you did not like the new museum. For your information the museum is almost twice as large as the old one and it contains far more text that the old one (approximately 17.000 word in Norwegian), all exclusively written for the museum. At the heart of all storytelling lies identifying your audience and the... More
