The museum is closing in September and the collection is being moved to a new building. The building is a treat - lots of detail. As for current exhibitions - the photography was very interesting and the explanations of the evolution of portraits and documentary photography were well done. The artist exhibit - you might take it, but I certainly... More

Entering the former bank building, built in 1901-06 to designs of Ingvar O. Hjorth, is a strange sensation. One minute there is light, the next it has faded into darkness - and so it goes on over and over again. This is very odd in an art gallery, the Museum of contemporary art in Oslo. It is like being in... More

The ground floor was closed when we visited, we knew that the visiting exhibition was photography but had checked that there was some of the permanaent exhibition on display upstairs. That turned out to be pretty much all photography too. With the notable exception of a small number of splendid, if disturbing, Louise Borgeois pieces and a rubbish collector's collection,... More

I have visited the museum several times, but it was only the present Exhibition of Sidsel Paaske which I found impressive. I learned so much more about her than I knew before, and I found her jewellery pieces were great! I also found the museum shop interesting!

As I am not the art person it was for me okay to see the pictures, paintings and similar things. It is a nice museum with some limited exhibitions in addition.

The current exhibition by Sidsel Paaske is excellent, but check their program before planning a whole day out. Their exhibitions have very various quality, The building has however been revived to it's old glory. The white cubes are removed and it's now possible to see original building details, particularly on first floor. That is really worth visiting.

I spent half an hour at this rather small museum. The building itself is nice but the few collections were a bit disappointing. The second floor exhibition was advertised but non-existent as far as I could see. The staff is friendly and the café served a nice chocolate cake.

As I have said many times in my reviews here, modern art is as good or bad as the space where it is displayed and exhibited. In some cases (Guggenheim, Neues, Kiasma, Kumu) the building and the space itself becomes art and enhances the exhibits. In some cases like here, the building is so inappropriate and depressing that even good... More

Worth a short visit if you have an Oslo Pass. A little too abstract for my taste as depicted by the mouldy bread exhibit and the giant bonbon (pictured). Probably worth going if you are an art officianado.

A lovely old building to house a range of interesting & thought provoking installations. As ever with art, there were some pieces I enjoyed more than others, and some I did not understand at all, but overall this was a really pleasant way to spend an afternoon. Especially if, like us, you stop off in the delightfully eclectic cafe for... More
