The Royal Palace is situated on a rise at one end of Oslo’s main thoroughfare, Karl Johans gate. It was officially taken into use on 26 July 1849 by King Oscar I.The Royal Palace is open to the public during the summer season. Visitors follow a guided tour through the most important rooms of the Palace. There is usually also a special exhibition each year, as part of the tour. Tickets are available at Billettservice.no and at the entrance. The main changing of the guard takes place every day at 1.30 PM.The Royal Palace is where the daily work of the monarchy is conducted and where the King and Queen live. It is where the King presides over the Council of State, grants audiences and holds official dinners. Foreign heads of state who visit Oslo stay at the Palace. Most of the members of the Royal Court have their workplace here.

Beautiful palace. I was lucky to be here when there was lots of snow in Oslo and the palace and park looked magical. Easy to get to and only need 15-20 minutes for a stroll Rlund and a few pictures. Don’t miss it!

On most occasions, you can only walk up to and around the palace. It is an enormous building flying the Royal flag and with a sentry in full dress uniform guarding the entrance.

If you visit Norway, of course the castle is something you will go visit. From the front it doesn't look too big, but if you go around to the back you will have a park and see that the castle is way bigger than it...More

Visited this place in winter so the tours inside were not available . The grounds were very pretty and even covered in snow it's a cool place to walk around and take some photos. The guards are ok on display but we didn't watch the...More

Even though it's only open to tourists in the summer, it's still worth seeing, and visiting the surrounding park.

Beautiful building and beautiful gardens. Unlike Buckingham Palace you can walk almost right up to the building, although there are guards, there are not any gates. We had a walk round on our way to the park.

looks like the concierge lodge of Versailles. Absolutely nothing to see. But the garden is quite useful to take your dog out

We had a baffling experience where we were all standing, waiting to see the Changing of the Guard at 1pm as every piece of promotional material confirmed. We waited for 30-45 mins. Someone eventually asked a guard whether it was occurring (not sure whether you...More

I'm not sure if you can go inside, but from the town centre one is drawn to this beautiful bulding, possibly made more attractive with the snow and lights. It's a lovely walk up, and you can watch the changing of the guards.

No, I'm afraid the season ends on 17 August. The smal summer palace of Oscarshall will still be open for visits during the weekend first part of September, though, if that would be of interest to you. More information at... More
