The Royal Regalia - the Crown, Sceptre, Orb, Sword of State and Royal Standard - are symbols of royal power. The Norwegian king's crown was commissioned by King Carl XIV Johan for his coronation in 1818. Since then, it has been used at four coronations and has had a prominent place at two benedictions. The regalia were last time used in 1991 during the benediction of King Harald V and Queen Sonja.

This museum was included in a combo admission to the church and palace. It was behind the church near the military museum. It had crowns, swords, royal robes and photos of royalty. There were statues and coronation chairs. I am a descendant of King Olaf,...More

Likely worth it for the value with the combo ticket but there are not too many jewels here. Enough to see who has style (the Queen) versus who wanted a bunch of rocks on his crown.

Housed in part of the Archbishops Palace, it is suitably atmospheric. Unlike the British Crown Jewels, these are more modest, without huge, expensive stones, but nonetheless impressive. Associated is a view of the monarchy that has lasted a thousand years, and has gone through many...More

No idea how people still post photos when it clearly says no photos. The crown jewels are not replicas, they are the real thing. You can find this small display inside the Archbishop's Palace.

There is a fine line between having too many things on display and having too little. In the case of this small museum, I feel that they could have included a few more examples of, what must be, quite an extensive collection of royal regalia.

Wonderful exhibit of crown regalia and pictures of past coronations including present incumbents. Interesting to observe the more restrained design of their regalia compared to ours in England

The presentation of the crowns was first class. We were the only ones in the room so a very good experience. The only downside is basically the regalia is only 3 crowns dating back to 1830's. Along with the other exhibits especially the military museum...More

The regalia itself was fascinating and quite well presented but the exhibition could be better. Only spent around 20 minutes here and that was enough to see what needed to be seen.

If you get a combo ticket, you can visit the Cathedral, Archbishop's museum, and see the Crown Jewels and other regalia. These are the real thing, well worth seeing. The regalia are not only beautiful, but the exhibits also give some of the history associated...More
