A simple statue of an important historic figure, it's just a shame it stands in the middle of a construction site right now.

King Olav Tryggvason (968-1000) founded Trondheim and was the instigator of Latin Christianity in Scandinavia...starting turbulent times. Read Njal's Saga.

I think the whole square around the monument will be a lot nicer once the construction is finished, but right now, the place is a mess. You can still see the monument though, standing up above it all...

In the middle of the main squRe it is an average monument but probably of more importance to the locals. As of July 2018 the square is undergoing major works and difficult to get close.

This proud monument is a remarkable sight in Trondheim. Throughout history the viking kings settled in town, and Olav Tryggvason is one of the most famous.

It is a statue in the main square. The palace is close by. There is also a small mall conveniently located, as well as many restaurants nearby. There was a lot of construction at the time I visited. It could be a handy meeting place.

I was a bit disappointed when we came to the square as most of its historic buildings have disappeared, only to be replaced by 70's grey buildings containing McDonalds and Burger Kings. The Olav Tryggvason Monument is impressive but that's the only impressive thing about...More

The square is very impressive, and the obelisk at its centre is at the fulcrum of the axes that are the roads leading from the Square. "All roads lead to Olav".
