Salhus Tricotagefabrik was founded in 1859, as one of the first knitwear factories in Norway. Trikotasje means knitted fabric. Join one of our guides for a tour of the knitwear factory from 1859. Take in the smells that still linger at the factory premises after many years of hard work and knitwear production. Enjoy our home-baked goods in the café, or look for a gift in our museum shop.

Using the Bergen card gets you by buses (free) to this museum outside Bergen. The factory is nestled into a small town where little else was available for work. The factory made mostly woolen underwear until the 1980's just like the New England cotton factories...More
