The Art Nouveau Centre was opened by HM Queen Sonja of Norway on 6 June 2003, and is a national centre for Art Nouveau/ Jugendstil. The museum occupies the listed Svaneapoteket pharmacy building, right in the heart of Aalesund. Much of the original interior of the building has been preserved and restored. The museum has permanent and temporary exhibitions spread over three floors. Exhibits include a broad selection of Norwegian art nouveau objects, from advertising to jewellery, in addition to several multi-media shows. The Art Nouveau Centre has a gift shop and a cafe, where you can enjoy a nice slice of cake and a cup of coffee.

The Jugendstilsenter gives a comprehensive and excellent introduction to the background of this architectural wonder of a city. The fire in 1904 is well dramatised with the aid of a 'time machine', Then the restructuring and rebuilding of the whole town. Well presented. The building housing the center is itself and excellent example of the Art Nouveau style. Exterior, interiors,... More

We were on a Hurtigruten cruise that stopped in Alesund on a rainy day. The museum was easy to get to from the ship, and a great spot to duck into to get out of the rain. We enjoyed hearing the first-hand stories from the fire, and exploring the exhibits in the next room. Small, but fun!

Loved the Jugendstilsenteret. Has an incredible audio visual experience that takes you back in time. I learnt so much about the last 120 years of the town. This museum is housed in a beautiful Jugend building and has a great cafe and gift shop. Well worth a visit

So well curated and exhibited. A must see for any art and design lover. The history of the town, architecture and the arts are very well explained and the collection is small but very rich.

We visited these two museums, which are both accessible for one price. There was an exhibition in the Kube named "Town" on, urban development and urbanization, which was nice. The entrance to Jugendstil museum is just opposite and trough the museum shop. It is worth a visit if you are interested in Art Nouveau, it`s really opens your eyes for... More

We found the museum interesting and fascinating. I loved all the original rooms and the multi media presentation on the rebuilding of Alesund.

When we visited Alesund, it rain all day. Because we are great fans of the Jugendstil, we decided to visit the Jugendstilsenteret. We expected to stay for an hour or two, but that went 5 hours.... (including lunch) A great museum, with a very clear explaination of the city fiers of 1904 and the rebuild of the town!

I didn't have time to do the museum, but I did walk about the area quite a lot and I found the building kept capturing my attention for some reason. It looks just like a simple building but it's well built and designed with Norwegian modesty. The stone work is finely done and the roof though simple is clearly designed... More

The perfect setting for an art nouveau museum. Beautifully preserved apothecary and residence from the period. The interior spaces and details were great. There were also nice displays of a variety of types of artistic creations from the early 20th Century- furniture, glass, textile, ceramic, and print. What I didn't see was any explanation of the artistic style that would... More
