The Hepworth Wakefield is Yorkshire's award-winning gallery designed by David Chipperfield Architects which opened to the public in May 2011. The UK's largest purpose-built gallery in over 50 years, we celebrate the achievements of one of Britain's most significant sculptors, Barbara Hepworth, in the city in which she was born and raised.

As well as the Hepworth Family Gift, a unique collection of Hepworth's working models gifted to Wakefield through the Art Fund, the gallery also holds the collection of the former Wakefield Art Gallery. Alongside collection displays, we also present a regularly changing programme of contemporary exhibitions by world-renowned artists as well as offering award-winning family and learning activities for all ages, a cafe bar and shop - a perfect day out for all the family. Free admission all year round.

Nice building and well located. Good shop. One of the temporary exhibitions was rubbish but most galleries were good

Same as above. I would visit regularly if I was local. Enjoyed my trip but wouldn't travel a long way to return.

We visited Wakefield specifically to see the Jonathan Anderson exhibition at The Hepworth and we're pleased we made the effort to drive from SE England! There is a car park just across the river from the gallery where you have to pay but The Hepworth itself is free entry. The work of Barbara Hepworth and artefacts relating to her are... More

If you plan to visit the Hepworth Gallery please make sure that you have a real interest in art or history, as I have heard several people say how board they were. Not a place that I would recommend for children unless as a part of a school party.

we arrived after a 4 hour trip from Suffolk and enjoyed a light lunch of beetroot, feta and mint jacket potato🙂🙂. having relaxed and stretched we went round the gallery. it was beautifully set out with views out of windows framed. each glimpse through doorways tempted you further on.... a fabulous visit and precursor to the YSP.

So we're on a trip to Yorkshire and first stop was The Hepworth. It is a wonderful modern gallery built in the concrete box style but cleverly uses natural light in all the galleries which shows off the art to the very best. Also an excellent temporary exhibition which changes regularly and at present is a well curated show of... More

My first visit here and unfortunately the exhibits weren't really my kind of thing. However, the staff were so helpful & informative l feel l gained some understanding. Nigel was particularly approachable & knowledgeable and explained things in such a way that l enjoyed talking with him.

The Hepworth museum in Wakefield is full of sculptures dedicated to Barbra Hepworth. The artwork there is truly exceptional. There is a mix of paintings, sculptures and clothes all on different topics. In one of the many rooms is a children's art and crafts where you can make either identical fabrics that Barbra created or make something of your own.... More

We had a couple of hours to spare in Wakefield and thought we would to take the opportunity to visit the Hepworth. The grim exterior belies the simple and airy inside space but we were disappointed with what was on offer. The paintings are from the former Wakefield art gallery and were singularly uninspiring. The Hepworth exhibition is interesting if... More
