We visited the Somerset tow path specifically to see the Somerset Space walk, a scale model of the solar system. We walked from Mars the the sun and back it was really fascinating to see the relative distances and sizes, and the fact that it was too far to continue to the outer planets was telling. It was great to... More

You can start this towpath walk in several places between Taunton and Bridgwater, the carpark at North Newton is a good place to start. Lovely and quiet in peaceful countryside ideal for dogs and children, occasional electric boat rides ( need advance booking). Very nice riverside cafe for tea and cake or icecream at the end of it. Well kept... More

Just adore walking various stretches of this canal walk. Beautiful views. Wildlife . Interesting locks and history to learn about. Meet lovely people and stop for drinks along the way.

Reminding me of that lovely old Ealing Studio film about the painted boats (canal boats), that plied their trade on Britain's waterways, it was a great 'time to get off the world' experience to enjoy walking along the towpath, where horses would have trod and provided propulsion for the quiet juggernauts of their day. Whether you have half an hour,... More

Have walked whole towpath from Taunton to Bridgwater, in stages, on numerous occasions. Some stretches are better done in good weather, because of surface, but on the whole very good. My favourite area is around Maunsel and North Newton, but the Creech and Boat & Anchor areas are also nice. Tea rooms and toilets at Maunsel lower lock is useful... More

Would be better in the sunshine but in any weather the views are staggering. This is the Somerset levels with an amazing variety of wild life. It all looks very peaceful but remember the floods a few years ago.

An excellent fairly level path for dog walking. Some cyclists pass by but usually well-mannered and safe.

late summer when people are using the walk and the mosquitos start to come out as well, that's is the only draw back, other wise this riverside is perfect to go when after evening dinner, again nothing is perfect, some of the dog-owners still selfishly let their dog spoil the path which is the most annoying thing.
