Interesting look into the past for all, especially those over 60years of age! Examples of toys from my childhood and also domestic aids for laundry etc also from my childhood. I took my grandaughter who is only 6 years old and she was amazed at items on display and interested at granny's explanation. There is a replica dolls house of... More

This was a spontaneous visit as it was whilst the castle was being refurbished so we couldn't go there as originally planned. But what a nice surprise!

Small museum in an elegant Georgian house, Grade I listed building. Displays demonstrating family life of the rich and poor in Georgian and Victorian Colchester. Fascinating display of historic toys, clocks and full model of Hollytrees House. It is claimed that three of the best known Nursery Rhymes originated in Colchester. Humpty Dumpty, Old King Cole and Twinkle Twinkle Little... More

A fantastic museum and a look at Colchesters past. From the 18 hundreds right through to the second world war lots to see and do. But best of all its FREE entry. There is a lift for disabled people to use to its fully accessible.

Free, local history set in a historic building. Good collection of Grandfather clocks. Perfect for a rainy day in Castle Gardens

This is a lovely little museum adjacent to Colchester Castle and is a gem of a place. It was lovely to see the displays and read the pieces of historic information. I particularily like the Dolls Houses and my sons enjoyed the toy room dispaying older toys. The beautiful views out of the windows onto castle park were enjoyable, making... More

I was enjoying my visit untill the floor with the children's toys in .... I'm pretty certain there are some spiritual beings around as they did not Like my being around , I felt ill, and I had the urge to leave to feel better. I think a cleansing is due ... They the children are not happy

Hollytrees museum is a great place to visit and learn about Colchester's Victorian past. My wife and daughter found the clock and doll house exhibits exceptionally interesting. Definitely worth a visit!

This is an excellent museum set over a number of floors. The clocks are fantastic. My grandchildren loved the toy museum. Well worth a visit and its free! Staff are very helpful.
