Balmoral is the Scottish home of the British Royal Family. The Castle Ballroom, gardens and exhibitions are open from the 29th March until the 31st July. Visitors are able to view the Castle Ballroom, the largest room in the Castle, used for a number of formal occasions when Her Majesty is in residence. This is a rare opportunity to see many original pieces of fine art and treasures which normally reside within the private rooms of the Castle. An audio tour is included in the admission price and guides visitors around the formal and production gardens as well as a number of other exhibitions located within the stable block. In 2013 visitors area able to enjoy an exhibition of photographs of the Royal Family by Cecil Beaton. The exhibition is organised by the Victoria and Albert Museum London and contains over forty fascinating images. Other displays include a native wildlife exhibition, a look at the Royal Yacht Britannia, a year in the life of Balmoral and our Balmoral audio visual presentation. We have a spacious self service cafe and gift shop selling a wide range of Balmoral souvenirs. Walks and trails are waymarked on the estate so visitors can enjoy a leisurely riverside walk or more strenuous exploration of the many commemorative cairns located within the grounds. Please note that Balmoral closes to visitors on the 31st July. The room open to visitors in the Castle is the Ballroom. Other rooms in the Castle form part of Her Majesty's private residence and as such are not open to the public.

Our second walk in the estate: the first, two years ago, was round Loch Muich. This time, due to advancing arthritis, it was a six mile winter ramble round the part of the estate nearer the castle. Lovely views of castle, river, woods and snow...More

This tour was disappointing as you only saw one room in the castle. But once you realize it is a REAL castle and a small one, it makes sense. The tour guides were excellent, but if you're thinking you'll see some rooms and the insides,...More

The web says 60/40 outside/inside, make that 80/20. If you’re not interested in gardens then don’t bother to visit. We’ve visited a lot of castles and stately homes over the years and this is one of most expensive disappointments we had. Only positive point was...More

My husband and I did a winter tour at Balmoral. The tour guides were very friendly and informative. There is limited access inside the castle since it is an actual residence for the royal family, but there are multiple exhibits and full access to the...More

You'd have to be quite high up - it's surrounded by a large amount of woodland due to it being a royal residence. It's right in the middle of the Cairngorm National Park so you're not far from the mountain range there

I believe that the castle closes at the end of July to prepare for the annual holiday for HM The Queen and other members of the Royal Family. So do not arrange to visit in September.

Hi, Sorry, no, Prince Albert designed the Castle well and it is not from the road.
