Built in 1581 by Newbury clothier Thomas Dolman this fine Elizabethan building was recently restored through a £6million project. The stories and characters from Shaw House’s varied past are bought to life in the new exhibition. An ideal day out for families; Wheelie Do activities are located throughout the house, with activities from designing the gardens to playing our Civil War board game. Exciting and varied events program. Open most weekends.

This old house dates back to queen Ann and Charles the first. I went here in the 1960's it was a all girls school then and the most historic place to go to school. We always said it was haunted up in the attic but now they use it for functions and you can look round it on week/ends. They... More

I had the honour of being best man at a wedding here, what a beautiful place to get married, the pics look far better than any wedding at a registry office I've ever been to, the grounds are lovely and the staff in the cafe are accommodating to large parties.

We got married at Shaw Houses in December 2015 and I should have done this review sooner as it really is a beautiful venue for a wedding. The staff are lovely and made our day amazing. Although it was December it was a beautiful day and we had pictures inside and outside. We also had our close family and friends... More

This was our first visit and we were the only ones there! The staff were so helpful and informative. We will definitely be visiting again. 2 adults and 2 teens and a 10 year old. We made a small donation. The grounds were well maintained. Recommend to all.

We visited Shaw House which is also the register office - in fact there were two weddings and a baby naming the day we were there so two of the rooms were out of bounds. However there was still plenty to see after an introductory talk by Adam which gave a good base about the house. Good tearooms too.

Lovely situation on the edge of Newbury, however there are not many exhibits although there are themed events during which more archives are introduced

We visited on a Sunday morning and we were the only ones viewing the house. On arrival we were asked if we would like an informative talk about the house which we said yes to so at least we then knew something about it's history. Monday - Friday Shaw House becomes council offices so not sure about opening on those... More

Shaw House was the venue for a large summer family gathering of relatives from London and the South West. It has spacious grounds with picnic tables and the staff couldn't be more helpful or friendly. They even brought out giant Jenga, Connect 4 etc. games for us to play on the lawn. The house itself is beautiful and its hard... More
