We came to see the YPU photo exhibition so were there for several hours during which time we stopped for coffee from the machine in the seating area - not bad for machine coffee. The staff were helpful and the pictures well displayed.

There is something about this gallery that I will struggle to describe. As you walk in there is a very uplifting sense of peace. The main permanent gallery is so packed with big name artists that I found myself in a trance of awe. I could not pick a favourite piece in this gallery I love it all! The shop... More

Climb the stairs to the top floor of this 1930s building and see some wonderful paintings by Britain's top 20th century artists. I personally love the still life by Christopher Wood, the early Bacon, a Vaughan landscape and a couple of Lowery's. They also have a changing exhibition space and a little seating area with a coffee machine. Oh, if... More

We hadn't visited Huddersfield for twenty years or so but one reason we returned was to see the art gallery and the David Tindle exhibition, it didn't disappoint, although it's small gallery, as you'd expect they have some impressive pieces, a good representation of the Bloomsbury group and three Lowry's as well as good selection of local artists. Worth making... More

Thank you for your review describing us as a 'real local treasure' and the impressive art on show. I'm sorry the toilets are poor. I'll pass your comments on to the building manager. More

Some great paintings inc two Lowrys in this unsung gallery. A 60s portrait of Paul Mccartney is one of the highlights.

Many folk are unaware of the treasures that their local art gallery can reveal. Apart from its own little treasures, including some hitherto unfamiliar Lowrie, there was a large exhibition of David Tindall. This was quite remarkable.

This is a great art gallery, there are some really interesting works here and it is worth the visit to see some of Lowry's paintings up close. I understand Kirklees also have a Francis Bacon which is not on display. Hopefully, this will be shown in the future. The building is also beautiful.

Thank you for your review and mentioning that it is a gallery to be proud of. The Bacon is on display at The Tate in Liverpool and then going to Amsterdam. We'll put it back on display on it's return. More

Whilst following the Huddersfield Heritage self-walking trail we arrived outside this impressive library building built during 1937-40 and well known for its external sculpted figures, by James Woodford, just as it began to rain and decided to take a look at the art gallery on the top floor. This is actually quite a good Gallery and we spent an enjoyable... More
