We arrived early in the morning so were the first people in. This just added to the beauty of the place as we could look around in absolute peace. Stunning place and amazing views. We all loved looking around. Worth the entrance fee. We would...More

Me and my partner stopped here on the way down to Bristol and I'm glad we did. We stopped once before but the weather was so bad we only stopped for food. This time however the weather was amazing so we decided to explore. We...More

Stopped at the abbey whilst on a drive around the Forest of Dean. Costs 6.50 to enter, although you get the £3 car park ticket off this cost. So end up with free parking and entry for £5 each as a couple. You can sense...More

It's a worth a visit learning the history of the place, it's amazing to think that the place is like 887 years old. And the £3 parking is refundable upon entry which is a bonus.

The size of the ruins is astounding. Vast windows tower over the valley. The hospital wing must either have serviced local communities, or else all sick monks must have been sent here.

There is something about Welsh history that needs to be embraced. This awesome, peace filled Abbey is well worth visiting supported by a village community keen to please tourists.

A lovely, picturesque drive brings you to these majestic monastic ruins, beside the River Wye. It does not take much to imagine the shell of this awesome abbey fully complete as when built in the twelfth century; standing for 400 years before the Dissolution. It...More

Enjoyed our visit. On walking around the ruined Abbey, we felt a strange sense of quietness but also a slight feeling of eeriness. Not to sure why, whether it was the wild birdsong, beautiful location or the history of its destruction. Well worth a diversion....More

Ruins that do not take much imagination to picture how it must have looked in all its splendour. Majestic is the only word to describe this place. Unlike a lot of the Abbey's that fell victim to Henry VIII's dissolution of the monasteries, Tintern was...More

As the previous traveler wrote it is visible from A466. You can see quite a bit from its car park if you don't have time to go inside although it would be a shame to miss its grandeur.

Not sure about a train from Chepstow to Tintern Abbey but there is a regular bus service, the No 69, from Chepstow Bus Station. You need to check the times online but in rough order, peak week days, evey 35 mins and then... More
