Good selection of books both below the castle and up at the top. very cheap and donation is made by honesty box. At £1 per paperback you cant go wrong. lovely view from the top and nice garden at the rear.

Unusual to say the least - unless you look through the castle gate you would not realise the either side of the wall are bookshelves built onto the wall. All books are used, but there is a pretty good selection, more so if you are just browsing rather than looking for something in particular. Honesty system in terms of payment,... More

The whole concept of an "honest bookshop" is great. This was my first visit of one and I loved it. There is actually quite a selection of books of many different genres, although you probably need some luck to find exactly what you were looking for. The system is simple; all the paperbacks are 50p and all the hardbacks are... More

Love this it retains that essential quirkiness needed for second hand book places. Have found some real gems here over the years.Iit's a little smaller than it used to be do hope it will continue when the work n the Castle starts it's a lovely spot especially on a sunny evening and nice to be trusted with the honsety box... Spent quiet a few hours browsing through the second-hand books on the shelves and had quite a pile of books by the time I had finished. All books are reasonable and I didn't pay more than a pound for each book. The honesty box is a lovely idea, but the only trouble is you had to have the right change!... More

I found the whole honesty bookshop quite strange but it must work and restored my faith in humanity. Closer to the castle there is also an honesty bric-a-brac shop which runs on the same principal. Great idea to extend a books life!
