There was a theme around the house with information boards as though you were viewing the house with a view to purchasing it at an auction being held in 1927 when Lord Bearsted who was the Chairman of the Shell Oil Company bought it. He collected paintings and porcelain and designed alterations to the house to display these. You are... More

Good car park and easy access to the grounds, about quarter of a mile from car park. On arrival we were allocated a time slot for viewing the house but it was 2 hours after arrival. We did not find enough to see or do to keep us there that long so we left without seeing the house and so... More

This is a gorgeous country home, formerly owned by Viscount Bearsted, Chairman of the Shell Oil Company. References to this in the house include several Shell advertising posters from the days when motoring seemed far more glamorous than it does now, and a huge antique desk on loan from Shell HQ. Upton also has a vast art collection including paintings... More

This was such an interesting aspect of seeing how Upton House was remodelled in the 1920s. I loved the building blocks that showed how they made the house more symmetrical. The rooms are beautifully furnished and the art works stunning.

We visited here over Easter, the rooms are all lavishly furnished as they would have been in their era, we were given many interesting facts in various rooms, about the history and family who lived at the property. One guide went out of his way to make our visit memorable giving us a detailed description of the ceiling mural that... More

Went here for a walk round the grounds and helping out a lil one in the Easter Egg hunt. Really enjoyed myself as did everyone else in the group. Grounds are lovely, though some bits are still being done up, but this doesn't distract too much. The staff were very friendly from the guy in the car park to those... More

Visited on a wet and cold Sunday and spent around an hour walking around the gardens in which you can see hundreds of snowdrops ready to bloom in the next week or so, obviously because of the season some of it is closed off for your safety and to prevent damage to the grass. The house itself is stunning, the... More
