What an Excellent and unusual Fathers Day Gift.. Booked visit via phone, The Cidery is a little out of the way, but Sat Nav took us straight there, traveling through some wonderful country side. Simon, gave a excellent presentation about the history off cider making, which was very interesting the presentation also went into the process and the differences between, various areas within the UK and the small cider makers and the big Corporations making cider. prior to having a look at the cider making process, we indulged, in the three samples they make, then having a choice of a larger sample of our favourite, which we took on the short tour which was also interesting. At the end of the tour there was an opportunity to purchase Ciders, which we duly did.

This was a birthday present via Groupon. Bit difficult to find the farm, even with GPS, it is hidden away, and the farm sign at the start of the track is a tad small...but is well worth the trek driving through beautiful Kent countryside! A tad hairy in places when coming across farm machinery!!!! Simon was waiting for us, and along with another couple gave a great talk and presentation on apples, cider making, the differences between UK and global cider making! Then he showed the processes involved in making his cider and with lovely ciders to try (and buy) and I had one of the best apple juices I’ve ever tasted too.

Owners/organisers never bothered to return many messages/calls left to arrange the tour which had been booked through Groupon. Very disappointing as it was a birthday present for my husband.

After problems booking and leaving several messages finally agreed suitable time to visit venue. Us and friends turned up at allotted time, waited for an hour, but venue closed. Left messages to no avail. Excuse 5 hours later - ‘stuck on motor way and no note of phone number’. Really disappointed given we drove almost and hour to get there, as did our friends from a different direction. Host offered to rearrange but felt we had no trust in such an unprofessional organisation.

Booked the visit having received a Groupon voucher as a present. We had no problem with the booking and on the first call were able to book the date we wanted. Made sure of the directions as per previous reviews with route plotted into satnav and a google route on the phone. For us part of the enjoyment of the visit was the travel through rural Kent. I've lived and travelled throughout the county for 20 plus years and found that I was in areas I had never seen before. On arrival we were greeted by Simon, and yes the building on the outside does look a bit run down, but inside it is full of the history of the artisan cider maker. It's not like the Bulmers or Magners operation's this is the story of 'real' cider. Over the next 2 hours the time was spent listening to a man who is passionate not only about his product but also the history of cider making which goes back to medieval times. One of the ciders that visitors get to taste, 'Blushing Old Wife' is based on a recipe going back 500 years and it was very refreshing. Ideal for drinking on a warm summers afternoon sitting in the garden, with just an edge of sharpness and a crisp raspberry tang. There are other ciders to taste and between them I would suspect they would satisfy most palates. Both my wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our visit and we would certainly recommend those who like cider, or who are just curious, to do so as I am sure you would not be disappointed. As another reviewer said wrap up warm because if it's a cool day outside inside the building will be even cooler.
