Good for familiies or solo walks. Plenty to see and do. Try and go when Gibside Chapel is open and on Heritage Days the Landmark building is also sometimes open. Good for birding; red kites have nested in the woodland.

Gibside is on my door step and I would recommend a visit any time of the year. Great walks, great views and plenty to see. This is mainly an out door venue with the chapel and stables, plus cafe etc. Great if you want to get fit.

Another visit to Gibside on a very busy day. Had an early walk then stopped for lunch at the cafe. Queues were at the door but didn't take too long to get served. Staff were apologising for waiting. Food came out surprisingly quickly and soup was lovely. All in all, another great visit.

We visit here quite frequently with our children (2 and 6 years old) and we all love it. It's great for a both a short visit if your local or also a full day if you have the time as there is plenty to see and keep you entertained. The food on site can be expensive however there are plenty... More

It's just simply the best National Trust place in the north east. The improvements made over the last 5 years have taken it to another level. My children love coming here, plenty to see and do. The one and only negative for me, is that their shuttle buses go up and down the property emitting You horrible diesel fumes. They... More

Some tough spots on this peaceful woodland walk. Based in the Derwent Valley at Rowland's Gill in Gateshead. The monument makes a good target point to head for on your walk.

I last visited this place in 1968...on the same day the Queen Mum made her final visit to what was her family estate. These days it's in the care of the National Trust (with a banqueting house being looked after by the Landmark Trust). The family home, built on a coal fortune, has long been a cavernous ruin. However, the... More

This former home of the Bowes Lyon Family... the Queen Mothers family, is a 15 min drive or 2 min bus ride from Newcastle. it has been turned into a family day out with loads of great things to do and see, from the haunted ruins, to the Orangerey, which you can stay overnight in. there is good food, a...
