We visited Hopewell Colliery during a very rainy week in May and were delighted to find such a jewel tucked away in the Forest of Dean. The staff are welcoming and helpful, the tour of the mine with an actual Free-Miner was amazing and a little humbling. We were there for about three hours including the tour, our lunch and... More

We had a personalised tour of the mine. The information provided was so informative it was great, the knowledge was excellent. Very thorough and friendly tour. We also ate at the cafe, smart, clean and friendly cafe with picnic benches outside. Enclosed children's play area Disabled access for the car park and cafe. Definitely worth a visit.

Came across this fabulous little place after a long walk in the surrounding woods! Staff are extremely friendly & accommodating, even bringing water out for the dogs. The amenities were also spotlessly clean. Only had an ice cream this time, but all the food we saw looked amazing... will definitely be going back.

Had a lovely time at the Hopewell Colliery. The weather was inclement and my mind immediately jumped to here. We all really wanted to have another look, as our last visit was a good few years ago and we had also heard that they had a wonderful new café. My experience was fantastic, our tour guide was friendly, knowledgeable and... More

There is a lovely new cafe opened at Hopewell colliery. Completely refurbished to a very high standard. Very nice coffee shop in the heart of The Forest of Dean. I only had coffee and a cheese scone but will definitely be back very soon for a full meal. Everything looks really good.

Had a really nice time, tour guide was lovely, wasn't expecting to find such an interesting and unusual place on this trip. Food was good, was just £6.5 for tour and very interesting.

Today we enjoyed half a day at this unique historic place. The new cafe gave us a delicious lunch, after which we had an interesting guided walk through a mine shaft dug deep into the hillside. A great family outing!

We paid £6.50 for adult and £4.50 per child for a 45 min tour of a genuine forest free mine.led by a genuine Forest of Dean free miner and Verderer. We started at the lamp room and were kitted out with helmets and lamps. We were given a background to mining customs in the Forest of Dean and the rights... More
